Group Internal Control Manager

In Hungary, KOSTAL is building its first business service centre to provide business support in IT, finance, procurement, master data, sales and HR fields. The work can be managed remotely – with time-to-time office presence depending on the team’s agreement and the demand of the respective professional area – from any location in Hungary. In case of some company events, office attendance is expected from the colleagues. Technical conditions for working from home are fully in place.

Overall Purpose of the Job:
The Group Internal Control Manager will play a critical role in leading and managing the internal control function within KBS. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with policies and processes, as well as implementing additional controls to mitigate risks effectively. They will oversee internal control activities, provide recommendations for improvements, and enhance the organization's risk management framework. This position is crucial in ensuring that the organization's internal control framework remains robust, aligned with best practices, and supports sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Internal Control & Compliance Management:
- Develop and implement an annual risk-based Internal Control Plan to ensure compliance with internal regulations, policies, and industry standards.
- Conduct assessments to identify key controls within major business functions (e.g., finance, logistics, engagement, and program management).
- Evaluate the effectiveness of key controls through periodic testing and audits.
- Provide observations and recommendations for process improvements, ensuring timely follow-ups.
- Facilitate necessary training for staff to improve control adherence and awareness.
- Ensure proper documentation and monitoring of control measures to mitigate operational risks.
- Conduct follow-ups on recommendations from previous internal control reports.
- Issue an annual internal control report summarizing findings, risks, and improvements.
- Perform special projects such as Annual Risk Assessments and ad hoc management reports as needed.
2. Risk Assessment & Business Process Optimization:
- Examine internal control systems, management operations, and accounting records for adequacy.
- Identify, document, and evaluate risks associated with business processes, IT systems, and operational workflows.
- Ensure internal control audits align with business processes and strategic objectives.
- Develop and maintain business process flowcharts to enhance transparency and efficiency.
- Assist in embedding risk awareness and control culture across the KOSTAL Group.
- Collaborate with operational risk teams to identify, assess, and prioritize control incidents.
- Provide support in implementing regulatory and risk group requirements.
3. Leadership & Team Management:
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance input for team members.
- Oversee daily operations, set work priorities, and ensure smooth execution of internal control activities.
- Act as an advisor to senior management, briefing them on reviews, status reports, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Approve payments as required, ensuring adherence to control requirements.
- Support cross-functional collaboration to standardize best practices across the organization.
4. HU Legal Entity Compliance:
- Establish an effective control environment and conduct periodic testing.
- Develop and enforce policies to ensure regulatory and company-wide compliance.
- Conduct audits to assess policy adherence and alignment with company standards.
- Implement quality controls over internal policies to maintain consistency and compliance.
- Organize and conduct training on Travel & Expense (T&E) policies to ensure employee adherence.
5. Group-Level Internal Control & Compliance:
- Design and implement a phased approach to internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring compliance starting from 2025.
- Conduct post-implementation reviews, feedback assessments, and continuous compliance monitoring.
- Consolidate and report on the implementation and compliance status of internal controls.
- Coordinate with central and regional financial reporting teams to ensure a ‘fit-for-purpose’ control environment.
- Align with KOSTAL Group's centralized control requirements while adapting controls to business needs.
- Map end-to-end key financial processes, documenting activities, risks, and associated controls.
- Deliver training to enhance internal controls knowledge and improve compliance and documentation quality.
- Perform regular monitoring activities to ensure sustained compliance.
- Identify control deficiencies and collaborate with Regional/Local Finance Directors to develop corrective action plans.
- Develop an internal assurance/attestation plan for continuous monitoring and compliance.
- Work with Digital Transformation and Automation teams to implement tools that enhance efficiency and reporting.
- Provide regular updates to the Group Finance Director and CFO on implementation progress and compliance status.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in internal control management, shared services, or a related field.
- Experience in risk management, compliance, and process improvement preferred.
Technical & IT Knowledge:
- Strong project management skills with a proven ability to lead and manage complex initiatives.
- Solid understanding of internal controls, financial processes, and systems, with a focus on process automation and optimization.
Language Skills:
- Fluent in English.
- German language skills preferred.
Mobility Requirements:
- Travel as required based on business needs.
