Main Job Purpose:

Key leadership position responsible for managing and directing the organization’s accounting operations and external financial reporting activities for the region North America (Mexico & US). Ensure that all financial records are maintained in accordance with regional Accounting Principles (US-, MX-, German GAAP) and drive the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data across the organization. Oversee the monthly and year-end close processes, establish and enforce internal controls, and play a critical role in external audits, regulatory filings, and strategic financial initiatives.

 

Principal Accountabilities - includes, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, general ledger and company’s’ treasury functions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under US-, MX-, German GAAP.
  • Lead the monthly close process and support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly account analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax laws, and all applicable financial regulations in alignment with the local tax team.
  • Supervise the development, implementation and adherence to internal controls to safeguard company’s assets.
  • Responsible for year-end audit results and manage relationships with external auditors.
  • Develop and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure and oversee achievements of critical accounting KPI’s.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and support for complex transactions.

 

Qualifications

The role requires a strong technical accounting background, a hands-on leadership style, and the ability to operate both strategically and tactically. The Director will partner closely with cross-functional teams - including operations, controlling, taxes and legal, and will lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals in Mexico and the US, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required, MBA or Master’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or equivalent desired. CPA is a plus.
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience in the Automotive Industry with at least 5 years in a leadership role, experience in a public accounting firm is a plus.
  • Experience in leading multinational teams (Mexico & US) desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards, understanding of different GAAP models incl. US, Mexican and German GAAP.
  • Excellent understanding of Enterprise Systems and Solutions (preferably SAP FICO Finance/Controlling modules).
  • Exceptional leadership skills paired with attention to detail, organizational, problem-solving and multitasking skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen to and understand needs across diverse stakeholders at various levels of the organization within a multi-cultural environment.
  • Discretion, tact and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Superior Level language proficiency skills in English (read/write/speak/listen). Advanced Level language proficiency skills in Spanish (read/write/speak/listen) is a plus.
